    Abstract
Background and Purpose: Cardiovascular disease (CDV) remains one of the most important public health issues worldwide. Overweight, obesity and physical inactivity are risk factors for CVD highly prevalent in Puerto Rico, particularly among women where CVD is the leading cause of premature death. Low adherence to current physical activity guidelines is usually effective improving metabolic and health parameters know to occur in long-duration moderate intensity exercise training. However, the ability to tolerate HIIT in overweight or obese sedentary individuals and its effect in functional capacity and CVD risk factors is not clear. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to asses functional capacity, risk factors for CVD, and the feasibility of a HIIT program among overweight/obese women.
