dc.description.abstractObtaining environmental data may require to access a database. But, what if we have only images available and not a database? We developed an algorithm, using Python™ programming language, and we could access public web images and obtain information from them. Our interest was to access NEXRAD radar images to obtain precipitation data from Isla de Mona and Humacao, Puerto Rico, but this algorithm is also applicable to any other image that represents an environmental data. Eventually, we will be comparing our data results to precipitation measurements, directly obtained from a pluviometer, and to historical data from the NEXRAD radar database.
